WELCOME!

LIVING IN BETHLEHEM was created AS A SAMPLE PROJECT to post interesting info about Bethlehem and the environs in one convenient location. It is NOT the official page for the Town of Bethlehem. We try to include accurate and timely information, but LIVING IN BETHLEHEM isn't liable for inadvertant errors or omissions.

Most content is from the town hall and the Town of Bethlehem's offical home page, located here and run by Webmaster Linda P. Grenfell. Her detailed site is well worth visiting. Address questions and comments about it to Linda at lgrenfell@bethlehemct.org

Bethlehem Conservation Commission (BEC) focuses on educating citizens on environmental and conservation issues, supporting local efforts in these areas and providing an annual Newsletter with information on key issues. .

The Commission monitors town, regional and state activities concerning farmland preservation, watershed protection, brown fields, wetland and wildlife preservation, water conservation and quality, toxic substances and hazardous waste disposal.

BEC also works on development of natural resources inventory including: protected land, wildlife, wetlands, soils and open space.

Bethlehem purchased Swendsen Farm, a 123-acre open space, with valuable natural resources and wildlife. It hosts a multitude of wildlife, including a peregrine falcon, a bird that is endangered in Connecticut. Bethlehem Community Garden at the Swendsen Farm Preserve was founded in 2009 to help people experience a special connection to the earth and their community.

 Caring for the Land...

Connecticut's "Christmas Town"

Located in beautiful Litchfield County, Bethlehem is Connecticut's "Christmas Town". Our town's religious history includes the founding of the first theological seminary in the country and the sermons of the Rev. Joseph Bellamy. His home stands as proudly today as it did in the 18th century - the Bellamy-Ferriday House and Garden.

Bethlehem is also the home of the Regina Laudis Monastery and its exquisite museum quality, 18th century Neapolitan Crèche.

Each year the Bethlehem Post Office processes thousands of Christmas cards that may be hand-stamped with special Christmas cachets and mailed with the Bethlehem post mark.

Since 1981, Bethlehem has held its annual Christmas Town Festival. The Town Green is the center of the festival, with the buildings and churches surrounding it decorated and brimming with holiday crafters and delicious food. It is with this spirit of joy that we welcome you to the little town of Bethlehem, CT.
