POWER INTERRUPTION

Power outages happen for a number of reasons:
  • Weather - Winds, heavy snow and thick ice on trees or tree limbs can bring trees into contact with wires and cause an outage.
  • Lightning can also strike equipment or trees near it.
  • Nature - Animals occasionally contact parts of the system in a way that causes an outage. Large birds, squirrels and raccoons are frequent culprits.
  • Motor vehicle accidents - When a motor vehicle hits a pole and damages or breaks it, power outages sometimes result. Cranes and excavation machinery sometimes cause outages.
  • Equipment failures in any part of their system: overhead, underground, substations, transmission lines, etc.
  • Vandalism - Equipment is sometimes damaged by gunshot or objects thrown at it.
  • Routine, planned maintenance - On occasion, and with notice to customers, CL&P intentionally de-energize an area to perform necessary maintenance where safety to the worker prohibits working on "live" lines.

FOR POWER INTERRUPTION, Call Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) at 800-286-2000.

The website for their Storm Center is located here.

GET INVOLVED
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

In the event of an emergency due to environmental hazard, weather or other hazard, the Town's emergency response will be put into action.

Bethlehem's Emergency Management Office has the primary responsibility for the coordination of emergency management activities including planning, preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation; and serves as the central point of contact for receiving reports of incidents that occur within its jurisdiction and for disseminating emergency-related information.

Get ready for emergencies. Go to Citizen Corps' website and better prepare yourself for emergencies.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

It takes a lot to maintain and enhance  natural resources in and around the Town of Bethlehem. Through organizations, such as the Conservation Commission and the Bethlehem Land Trust, our Town works hard  to preserve, protect, conserve and provide access to our area's beautiful landscapes.
